Day of Remembrance

This year to commemorate the signing of Executive Order 9066 which resulted in the forced internment of 110,000 Japanese Americans during WW II, the Silk Road Theatre will staged a reading of Chay Yew’s Question 27, Question 28 through the voices of women.

Dramatic readings that tell the story of four Japanese American women’s courage and struggles while detained in the internment camps.

Chay Yew, hopefully, will lead the “question and answer” session immediately following the performance.

Kabuki Lady Macbeth

The Chicago Japanese American Historical Society and The New Chicago Japanese American Association will host a preview benefit upstairs at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

Director Shozo Sato creates a theatrical fusion of East and West in the world premier of Kabuki Lady Macbeth produced by the Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier. Sato’s adaptation of Shakespeare introduces the public to an art form “characterized by an exaggerated stylization that infuses every element from costuming and makeup to its grand poses and heightened vocalizations.”

The benefit ticket is $30.00
A private reception for benefit ticket holders will be held after the performance with Director Shozo Sato and some of the actors.
A limited number of tickets are available.
